RETIRED ASTRONAUT AND NAVAL OFFICER CAPTAIN WINSTON E. SCOTT SET TO SPEAK AT TOLEDO LADIES FOR THE CLUBS LUNCHEON
Boys & Girls Clubs of Toledo’s 12th Annual Spring luncheon set to continue raising crucial funds for the Clubs

TOLEDO, OH – May 14, 2021— Boys & Girls Clubs of Toledo’s 12th annual Toledo Ladies for the Clubs (TLC) luncheon is set to host a hybrid event with limited in-person capacity at Inverness Club and streamed live on the Clubs’ website on Friday, May 21 at noon. Captain Winston Scott, retired astronaut, naval aviator and officer, and Miami’ Southwest Boys & Girls Club alumnus, is the headline speaker.
"We couldn't be more excited to be back partially in person for this crucial fundraising event. And having Captain Scott here to not only speak at the luncheon but also tour one of our clubs giving local kids the opportunity to meet an astronaut and see first-hand there are no limits to what a club kid can do," said event chair Christine Kilman.
The TLC Luncheon aims to educate, inform and reinforce the importance of the mission of Boys & Girls Clubs to the community.
Prior to being selected to become an astronaut by NASA in 1992, Captain Scott earned his Master’s degree in aeronautical engineering with avionics from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School. He was designated a Naval Aviator in 1974. He has logged thousands of hours of total flight time in more than 20 different aircrafts. He served as a mission specialist with NASA on STS-72 and STS-87, logging a total of 24 days, 14 hours and 34 minutes in space, including three spacewalks.
After retiring from NASA and the U.S. Navy, Captain Scott returned to his alma mater, Florida State University as Vice President of Student Affairs. He currently is the senior advisor to the president at Florida Institute of Technology, where he also served as Dean of the College of Aeronautics.
Captain Scott will share how the Clubs impacted his life as a youngster.
A powerful message will also be shared with the audience and those tuned in virtually by Club trustee and alumnus, Lt. Col. John Davis Reynolds.
The TLC Luncheon has also hosted speakers such as Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Lucille O’Neal, Christine Brennan and many more.
