Boys & Girls Clubs of Toledo Announces Realigned Service Opportunities in Toledo

TOLEDO — To advance its mission with greater impact, Boys & Girls Clubs of Toledo, in partnership with Toledo Public Schools and Washington Local Schools, is implementing strategic adjustments to its service delivery model to better serve the youth of Toledo.

In its continued partnership with Washington Local Schools, Boys & Girls Clubs of Toledo will serve students through the new Whitmer Middle School. This transition for programming continues to serve children in Washington Local Schools after the closure of Hiawatha School at the end of the 2026 school year.

“We are thrilled to be able to seamlessly transfer the services of our current Boys & Girls Club to our new middle school location, allowing us to provide high-quality, after-school programming in a supportive space for 6th-8th grade students to connect, explore their interests, and build skills and relationships that will help them thrive during these pivotal, formative years,” said Kristie Martin, Washington Local superintendent.

Additionally, effective May 29, The Club, James A. Huber Teen Center, at Rogers High School will merge with the Schoenrock Family Boys & Girls Club located at 4700 Hill Avenue. This will allow the Schoenrock Club to expand its teen programming. Rogers High School students will receive complimentary memberships to the Schoenrock Club.

“This is about meeting young people where they are, and where they are going,” said James Ravas, president & CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Toledo. “We are aligning our resources to deliver deeper impact, stronger programming and greater opportunity for every teen we serve.”

In recognition of the Huber family’s unwavering commitment to the Clubs and Toledo’s teens and pre-teens, the James A. Huber name will be bestowed upon the new Whitmer Middle School location.

“This is a forward-looking strategy grounded in partnership, stewardship, and results,” Ravas said. “We are not stepping back; we are stepping forward with intention.”

This transition will expand teen-focused programming at the Schoenrock Family Club, ensuring continued engagement for youth in the Rogers community. Members at Rogers High School will transition to the Schoenrock Family Boys & Girls Club, maintaining uninterrupted access to Club services and support. Complimentary TARTA bus passes will be issued to students.

“Toledo Public Schools looks forward to continuing its partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Toledo and appreciates their commitment to ensuring our students still have access to the services they need and the programming they enjoy,” said Linda Ruiz Bringman, assistant superintendent of student, family, and community engagement for TPS.
